Andrew Conte, Director, Print Professor
Andrew Conte grew tired of watching students do great journalism and not receiving any
recognition for it, so he started the Point Park News Service. The idea is that students often come up with original ideas and when they produce quality work, the world should know about it. The news service provides an outlet for that work.
When he’s not teaching at Point Park, Andy works in the field as an investigative reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He has won numerous awards for stories on dangerous medical practices, behind-the-scenes shenanigans tied to Pennsylvania’s new gambling industry and government corruption and waste. The Trib has twice named him as its reporter of the year.
It may come as no surprise that Andy says the best job he’s ever had was as a reporter for the Columbia News Service when he was a student at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. The best part of that job was getting to tell some of the city’s great stories – from the crews that troll the subways with rat bait to the detailed work of cleaning the ceiling of Grand Central Terminal.
Andy, 38, lives in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon with his wife, Tania, and their children, Noah and Claudia.
You can reach Andy by phone at 412-320-7835 or by e-mail at aconte@pointpark.edu. Andy teaches the News Service class with Chris Rolinson, a photography professor.
